How Much Does an Adobe Commerce Website Cost in 2026?

An Adobe Commerce website has no standard price. The total is the sum of six line items: platform licence, hosting, theme and design, extensions, integrations, and ongoing support and upgrades. A Magento Open Source store with a standard theme and a few integrations sits at the low end; a multi-site B2B build on licensed Adobe Commerce with ERP and PIM integrations sits at the enterprise end. The licence is often not the biggest number. Integrations and years of maintenance usually are.

This guide breaks the cost into line items, shows what a low, mid and enterprise build typically includes for each, and lists the questions that move the number most. We describe effort levels instead of prices because rates vary widely by region and team, and a reliable figure only comes after someone has looked at your requirements.

First decision: which edition you are pricing

"Adobe Commerce website" can mean four different products, and each has a different cost shape. If you are not sure which one you need, start with what Adobe Commerce (Magento) is.

  • Magento Open Source: no licence fee. You pay for hosting, development, extensions and maintenance.
  • Adobe Commerce (on-premises or on Adobe's cloud infrastructure): a licence quoted by Adobe. Adobe's on-premise product description ties pricing levels to gross merchandise value (GMV) and average order value (AOV), so the fee rises as sales grow. Cloud infrastructure plans bundle hosting.
  • Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service: a SaaS subscription. Upgrade projects disappear, but customization moves to App Builder and the Edge Delivery storefront, which changes the build cost.

As of November 2026, Adobe's website shows no public price list for Adobe Commerce; licences are quoted by Adobe. Treat any third-party "standard licence price" as an estimate, and ask Adobe for a quote based on your GMV and AOV.

The cost model, line by line

Use this table to place your project. The three tiers are our general guidance on typical scope, not measured data and not price bands. A store can sit in "low" for one line and "enterprise" for another; that mix is what makes every quote different.

Line itemLow (estimate)Mid (estimate)Enterprise (estimate)
Platform licenceOpen Source, no licenceOpen Source, or Adobe Commerce at a lower GMV levelAdobe Commerce at a high GMV level, often with B2B
HostingSingle managed server or small cloud setupManaged Magento hosting with staging, CDN and VarnishAdobe cloud infrastructure or multi-node autoscaling, several environments
Theme and designHyvä or Luma theme with brand stylingCustom design on Hyvä, custom templates for key pagesFully custom design system, headless or Edge Delivery storefront
ExtensionsA handful of well-known modules (payments, shipping, SEO)15 to 30 modules, some needing Hyvä compatibility workMany modules plus custom-built ones for core business logic
IntegrationsPayment gateway, shipping, email marketing via standard connectorsERP or PIM through a connector, with field mappingERP, PIM, OMS, CRM and marketplaces, custom middleware, real-time stock and pricing
Data and migrationFresh catalog importMigration of products, customers and orders from another platformMulti-source data migration with SEO redirects and historical orders
Support and upgradesAd hoc fixes and periodic patchingMonthly support plan with patching and small improvementsDedicated team, SLAs, release management and continuous development

Read across each row and circle the column that matches you. Mostly low means a focused project; two or more enterprise lines usually mean a programme measured in phases, not a single build.

What drives each line item

Licence

For Adobe Commerce, the licence scales with GMV and AOV tiers set in your contract. Check what happens if you exceed your tier mid-contract, and whether the B2B module and services such as Live Search are included in your quote. For Open Source, the "licence" line is zero, but you will usually buy more extensions to fill gaps Adobe Commerce covers natively. Our comparison of Adobe Commerce vs Magento Open Source helps you weigh that trade.

Hosting

Self-hosted stores need an environment that meets current requirements: for 2.4.9, PHP 8.5, MySQL 8.4 or MariaDB 12.3, OpenSearch 3, Valkey 9, RabbitMQ and Varnish. Staging and development environments, backups, monitoring and a CDN are part of the line, not extras. Traffic peaks such as seasonal sales decide how much headroom you pay for.

Theme and design

Since November 2025 the Hyvä Theme has been free and open source, which lowered the cost of a fast frontend on the PaaS editions. Hyvä Checkout and some Hyvä add-ons remain paid licences; check hyva.io for current terms. Design effort grows with the number of unique page templates, custom components and how much of the checkout you redesign.

Extensions

Each extension has a purchase price, often an annual renewal for updates, and a hidden cost: it must be tested and sometimes fixed at every Magento release. Extensions with storefront features may also need a Hyvä compatibility module. Twenty extensions is twenty upgrade dependencies.

Integrations

Integrations are where budgets most often grow. A connector that "supports Magento" still needs field mapping, error handling, retries and monitoring. Real-time stock or customer-specific pricing from an ERP is far more work than a nightly product feed. Ask for integration effort to be estimated per data flow (products, prices, stock, orders, customers), not as one line.

Support and upgrades

Adobe releases security patches regularly and a new minor version roughly once a year, with three years of standard support per release. Each upgrade is a small project. Our breakdown of Magento upgrade cost explains how extensions, custom code and hosting changes drive that effort. A support plan through a team that does Magento support and maintenance turns those upgrades into routine work instead of emergencies.

Costs that are easy to forget

  • Discovery and specification before the build. Skipping it moves the cost into change requests later.
  • Content and product data: writing, photography, attribute clean-up and translations.
  • SEO migration: redirect maps, metadata transfer and post-launch monitoring when replacing an existing site.
  • Testing: regression, payment, performance and accessibility testing on every release.
  • Third-party subscriptions: search, reviews, email, tax calculation, fraud screening and CDN services.
  • Payment processing fees: charged per transaction by your payment provider, separate from the platform.
  • Internal time: product owners, merchandisers and testers on your side.

Questions that move the cost most

These are the questions an experienced team will ask before giving a fixed quote. Answering them up front makes quotes comparable.

  1. Which edition, and will you need Adobe Commerce B2B features?
  2. How many websites, store views, languages and currencies at launch, and in two years?
  3. How many SKUs, attributes and product types, and where does product data live today?
  4. Which systems must connect, in which direction, and how often (real time, hourly, nightly)?
  5. Are prices standard, or customer-specific and calculated by an ERP?
  6. How custom is the checkout: payment methods, delivery options, B2B approvals?
  7. Is this a new store or a migration, and how much order and customer history must move?
  8. What frontend: Hyvä, Luma, headless or Edge Delivery Services?
  9. Who owns hosting, and what uptime and peak traffic do you need?
  10. What support model after launch: ad hoc, monthly retainer or dedicated team?

Putting these answers into a structured brief saves weeks of back-and-forth. Our ecommerce RFP template gives you a format agencies can price against consistently.

How to compare quotes fairly

  • Same scope, line by line. Ask every bidder to price against the same line items above, with assumptions written down.
  • Separate fixed and variable work. Discovery and integrations with unknown APIs are often better as time and materials; well-defined builds can be fixed price.
  • Look at the first three years, not launch. Licence, hosting, renewals, upgrades and support usually exceed the build over that period.
  • Check what is excluded. Content entry, data clean-up, third-party fees and post-launch fixes are common exclusions.
  • Question very low quotes. They often assume a standard theme, no integration error handling and no testing budget.

Choosing the team matters as much as the number. Our guide on how to choose a Magento development agency lists the questions that separate careful estimates from optimistic ones.

Ways to control cost without cutting corners

  • Phase the launch. Go live with core commerce and the most valuable integration, then add the rest.
  • Prefer configuration over code. Use native Adobe Commerce features before buying or building extensions.
  • Keep extensions few and well maintained. Each one is an upgrade dependency.
  • Choose the frontend for the long term. Hyvä or Edge Delivery can reduce performance work later.
  • Budget for upgrades from day one instead of letting the store fall several versions behind.

FAQ

Is Magento Open Source really free?

The software is free. Hosting, development, extensions, design and maintenance are not. For many stores, Open Source is the lowest-cost route, but total cost depends on how many gaps you fill with extensions and custom code.

Why will agencies not give a price on the first call?

Because the biggest cost drivers, integrations and custom logic, are invisible until someone reviews your systems and requirements. A responsible fixed quote follows a short audit or discovery phase.

Does Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service cost less?

It removes upgrade projects and hosting management, which lowers some ongoing costs. It can raise build costs if your customizations must be rebuilt as App Builder apps. Compare total cost over several years, not the first invoice.

Getting a reliable number

The most accurate way to price a store is to map your requirements against the line items above and have a team audit the riskiest ones, usually integrations and data. Mistri's Adobe Commerce development team scopes projects this way, with a fixed quote following the audit rather than a guess on the first call.
